GDP #004 | Merry Christmas

The Global Design Project has given us a special treat this week! We get to play along and ‘CASE The Designer’ which means I get to CASE one of my favourite Australian Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators, the extremely talented ad down-to-earth Louise Sharp! And what a gorgeous card she has created for us this week! So much inspiration in one card.

Case the designer

How does this challenge work?

You can be inspired by ANYTHING on this card. What inspires you in this card to make it your own?
Here are some ideas of what you could be inspired by –
Theme – Christmas
Layout – Do you see those gorgeous layers? They are 2mm or 1/16″
Colours – Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla and Gold Glimmer
Stamp set – Wondrous Wreath or something similar like Circle of Spring or others.
Embellishments – the crystal effects, Linen Thread or that gorgeous gold glimmer heart.
I was inspired by Louise’s theme, layout and layers and the natural colours of her card although I didn’t directly CASE the colours that she had used but stuck to a neutral theme.

The hardest challenge for me this week was picking which stamp set but once my eyes laid upon ‘An Open Heart’, I knew that that was going to be the basis for my card. Now to make it all come together. I created my base using our stunning Kraft 12″x12″ card stock, Whisper White cardstock and I knew I wanted a but of texture on my card but nothing to severe to take away from the white space of the original layout… I had recently ordered a packet of our Kraft and White Corrugated paper and had been dying to use it on the perfect project. Well, this project was screaming to have some added to it. Perfect!
I then stamped my images onto some Whisper White card stock with black Memento, cut them out using the Circle Framelits and my much loved Big Shot and coloured them in with Blender Pens. I’m not very good at water colouring (which is what I originally had my mind set on doing), so the Blender Pens were my next option. A sort-of water colour look without all the mess and fuss. Once the bird was coloured, it was hand cut with lots of love and patience. Those legs were a bit tricky to fussy cut, let me tell you.

Louise’s card had a little gold heart added to the centre of her wreath which I think was adorable and set the whole theme of the card and I knew that I had to have a gold heart too. My heart punched out of Gold Foil paper with the cute little heart from the Itty Bitty Accents pack couldn’t go in the middle of my circle like Louise’s so I moved it up a touch and added a Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine bow. I have now CASEd one of my favourite designers. I hope that I have done Louise’s card justice with my creation.
I just couldn’t finish this card without adding a little bit of decoration to the inside, which is something that I have been doing of late and this card was no different. I stamped the inside with the branch stamp from the set, coloured it all in using the same technique as above and had to finish it off by adding another cute heart.

Once again I have enjoyed playing along with the Global Design Project.
Happy stamping,
