When coming up with ideas for my classes, I love to try and do something different and fun each week. This isn’t always the case, and you can’t go past a beautiful birthday card or a simple thank you card that is of the regular shape and opens the way well all know, but this week is all about the ‘Easel card’! I hadn’t made an easel card before so off to Google and Pinterest for a little exploration and to see if there was a tutorial to no avail. I just couldn’t find one I liked. While procrastinating at my desk about what else to do, I remembered that last year my friend, and fellow Stampin’ Up! demostrator The Paper and Stamp Addict Rebecca had send me one as a thank you.

First I needed to figure the dynamics of the card and how it all worked. I also wanted it to fit I to an Australian sized C6 envelope. Once, I had the basics, the best part was stamping and decorating it. Vintage Graffiti style! Now the hard part. To pick a stamp set and a colour combination. I did step out of my comfort zone this time and use colours and a colour combination that I don’t tend to lean towards. In saying that, I truly love how the card worked out.

I wanted a girly and fun colour combination and also wanted to use some new colour combinations, so I straight away grabbed my Colour Coach (which is retiring at the end of the month, so if you don’t have one already and struggle with colour combinations, this item is a must have. You can purchase it via my online store here and also see it on page 176 of the current 2014 catalogue). I picked a base colour of Wisteria Wonder, looked it up on the Colour Caoch and it suggests to me matching colour combinations. Well, I get Wisteria Wonder, Pink Pirouette and Cherry Cobbler. In my eyes, the Cherry Cobbler wasn’t girly enough for this project so I substituted it with a more delicate Rose Red. My ‘An Open Heart’ stamp set was destined to go on the card. Such a beautiful set. So versatile and I love the little bird stamp. I just could not resist using it!

I could not have this gorgeous card and not make a cute little box to go with it! Out came the Tiny Treat boxes, in all their naked glory. While the tiny treat box was still flat, I quickly stamped some ferns all over, using Crumb Cake, and then decorated it accordingly and of course to match the card! Again, the addition of the bird stamp, popped up on dimensionals is the show stopper!
